No Need To Be Admired:Music For Thursday

I'm a bit behind on this week's music for Monday, but whatever. Considering the throwback memories this album invokes, it works perfectly for a #TBT.

A few weeks ago the dark prince of macabre punk (Alkaline trio guitarist/ front man), Matt Skiba released his latest album ( on sexy blue and red vinyl) with The Sekrets titled "Kutz". Man, it feels so great to hear his voice again along with new haunting lyrics and music. Released on May 29th, I've probably heard this album 100 times and it just keeps getting better. My favorite song by far is "Way Bakk When" with pulsing synth piano licks set to Matt's easily identifying siren calls that keep drawing me in. (This song really could have been on the Heavens album he did too)
The whole album is classic Skiba and takes me back 15 years with songs that could easily be EPs to the albums God Damn It and Good Mourning.
The angst and desire that has become the song writer's trademarks are still prevalent and at times made me long for different and better times . Maybe that's what makes is album so incredible, it summons the avid listener with reminders of why Matt Skiba will always have a special place in our hearts.  Don't get me wrong, this album isn't fucking innovative or anything, but it's a beacon to shore for the old school fans who have been waiting for Matt to call us home.  3.5/5 ⭐️
