Dragons: Race to the Edge

On June 26thh Netflix dropped another original series (as it does) proving once again that I could be okay without the hundreds of cable channels I don't already use. Their new series "Dragons: Race to the Edge" is an all new binge-able series staring everyone's favorite dragon rider, Hiccup and his best pal, Toothless.

Those familiar with this adorable franchise know that this isn't the first show derived from the How to Train Your Dragon films. Cartoon Network hosted two previous series: Dragons: Riders of Berk and Dragons: Defenders of Berk.  The new show, Race to the Edge, fits in between the timeline of the two major movies, which is nice because that gives room for the return of Stoick to provide guidance and growth to Hiccup. The new 13 episode saga maintains the sweetness factor the movies are known for and adds a bit of darkness to it with the dragon hunters and the creeping eels. Race to the Edge is as good as I expected with even more adventures in place to tell a single story over the course of the season that will eventually lead directly to where the second movie picks up, and just in time for the scheduled release of How to Train Your Dragon 3 scheduled for June 2018.

In the first few episodes, Hiccup comes into possession of the Dragon Eye, a mysterious telescoped object filled with secrets that will guide the riders to undiscovered dragons and new islands and lead the Dragon Riders on countless adventures.

Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, and Snotlout are spreading their wings so to speak and decide to set up camp on an outlying island, Dragon’s Edge. Each rider has their own clubhouse and considering they're all linked together, it makes for a heck of getaway place that I really want to visit.

For anyone playing the Dragons: Rise of Berk mobile app game, keep an eye out throughout the episodes for dragons from the game which tell their origin and has the gang giving the, their names. Super coo tie in.  4/5 - Taffeta
